We were trying to make Van Horn for lunch and fuel, but fighting about a 30mph headwind we missed our mark by about 25 miles and had to stop here in Sierra Blanca.

You wonder what causes a town to die.

And they even had a Best Buy....go figure!

We stopped for lunch here at Chuy's in Van Horn, TX. John Madden the football coach/announcer loves this place. Sherm had a very good meal. Mine was lousy :(

I did like the setting

Maybe they are relying too much on Madden now.

Texas is big country!

A lot of Pecan orchards

Some very remote ranches

Some pretty good size dust devils

This was built as though it were and art sculpture out here in the middle of nowhere. Someone vandelized it and a few people have tried to repair it. What can these slimeheads really think they are accomplising by destroying someone elses stuff?

I didn't understand it nor did I really like it, but I didn't feel a need to destroy it.

These Aerostats are used to monitor our boarders, but they are secured when the winds get too strong.

Our first imposter blue bonnets

I think this is the Marfa court house, but I am just guessing

Sherm under the Star

Small town newspaper

Alpine is a cute little town about 70 miles north of Big Bend NP.

.
Nice bikes, nice murals

10 cent movies and 5 cent popcorn at the Granada

Some old guy with a fall hazard taking pictures

Nice park

Like their motto

Reminds me of the good ole days

I wish I had eaten here

The Catholics sure built some beautiful churches back then

Been there a long time with a slightly new addition to the right

These Mariachis were entertaining us for free and then asked Sherm to come join them

I think they just wanted to see him climb the wall

Unfortunately, after he joined them, everyone watching started to leave.

Like it's owner, only one good eye :)

If any of you need to know anything, feel free to ask Sherm or I tomorrow as we are staying at a Holiday Inn tonight :)
